Solving the 5x5 Centers

Same thing with the 4x4, we have to solve the centers first...
First step is solve one center face (preferably white).
However, you might recognize that you have a 3x3 center...
Which means - cross!

3x3 Center Cross.

Based on your cubing experience to this point, you should be able to make the first cross no problem.
Whoops, I don't think I made it clear, but you're making a 3x3 cross...

Anyhow, once you've made your cross, its time to solve the other pieces...
To do this, you need to know one algorithm; the algorithm we know best: Sune!

Suneing the Centers.

This is similar to the 4x4 - what it does is that it switches the bottom right piece on top (my white piece) with the top right piece of the center on the F face (my orange).
Too confusing? Try it, the algorithm is: r, U, r', U, r, U2, r!

You do this for all the 4 center corners until you solved the whole center.
Next is the center that is opposite the one you just solved...
Try and make the cross without scrambling the one you just solved, however you might hit a problem...

Double-block Swap

Yup its back. The double-block swap is used mainly to solve the last edge piece for the cross.
Its really simple, we position it like this:

T block.

As you can see, on my F face I have a T block with the bottom pointing left.
On top, I have my center edge piece on the left side.
When you've got something like this, you do this: l, F2, l' to put it into place.

Once you've solved the opposite cross, do the step above (the Sune) to solve your second center.


Now you solve your 3rd center, and it really doesn't matter what colour you choose.
Using a mix of the Double-block Swap and the Sune, you should be able to do it...

Then, solve a center that's adjacent to it and so on.
Soon, all the centers are solved and let's move onto the next step.
(Don't fret if you still don't know where each center goes, you don't have to worry about it for the 5x5)
