The 3x3 Orientations
Once you've solved the First 2 Layers (F2L), we now work on solving the top and final layer.
What we do, is solve the top face. This is also known as OLL, Orient Last Layer.
This is what you're aiming for in this step.
(Don't worry if the side pieces aren't solved, we're not worrying about it now.)

9 O'clock
First thing you would want to do is solve a yellow cross.
However, sometimes you're not going to come into one... So we make our own.
This is the 9 O'clock, hense the name, it's in a 9 O'clock position.
It doesn't matter what it looks like, if you could see the 9 O'clock, and you don't have a cross yet.
Hold the cube so the top face is on top, and the 9 O'clock's in position.
Perform and memorize this algorithm:
F, U, R, U', R', F'.
Sometimes, you might not get a 9 O'clock shape, but just keep spamming the algorithm to get it.
And if you did it correctly, you'll make the cross and if you're lucky, you might see something like...
Sune, Or The Fish
This is the Sune (or what we call it - the fish) and it's probably the most important algorithm for OLL.
You would use this algorithm once you've made the cross.
So, with the fish head on the bottom left, do this:
R, U, R', U, R, U2, R'.
Memorize it, please, its really beneficial...
Sometimes, you might not get a Sune, but spam it until you get one. However don't just spam the fish anywhere... Or else you'll end up in Sune loops...
Here are 3 that are problematic.
The Peanut - Perform the R of the Sune where the red circle is. You'll get a cross, so Sune again.
The Superman - You might also run into this, same thing as above, perform Sune where the red circle is to get the fish.
The Chameleon - This one's tricky, Sune where the red circle is to get the Peanut, and then just follow Peanut's instructions.
Yes, there are a total of 57 cases (all the possible positions) of OLL.
I don't advice you to learn them all, but at least learn the Peanut, Superman, Chameleon (the ones above) and the Anti-Sune.
You can check them out at Dan's Cube Station. Back to top.
