Wonders of the Summit

☘ ☘ ☘

When you climb all the way to the top of the mountain, a beautiful view like no other awaits you. Not only you can face the ocean and let the sea breeze calm you down, you can also see stretches of forests under the mountian. You can see almost all of Victoria (even all the way downtown)! If you live close, try looking for your house. Mt. Baker awaits you in the far distance, lovely and still.

Firs

Douglas Firs are the icons of Mount Douglas Park. They are so tall that 45 adults stacked on top of each other make the height of a single tree.

Mount Baker

Mt. Baker, a.k.a. Koma Kulshan, is seen in the far distance, over the sea. Glaciers are on top of the mountain year-round.

Mt. Doug

Mount Douglas Park is known for its white radio tower. It oversees the Haro Strait, surrounded by Cordova Bay Road, Blenkinsop Road and Cedar Hill Road. There are two amazing views at the top: when you climb to the radio tower east of the parking lot, you can see a wonderful view of Victoria, even downtown! Or, continue west, to where the sun sets, and go into the bowl-shaped summit to see the sea and forest, many kilometres away, with a 360-degree-view. If you go down the slope from the Beach Trail near Ash Road, you will find-- the beautiful beach!

Mt. Doug

Just be careful not to step on any sea creatures. There are tiny crabs everywhere under the rocks. Barnacles dot the rocks as well. If your hand is scraped open by one of those, it’s very easy to develop an infection. This beach is an incredibly long beach, with pebbles and sand all over the floor. When the tides are low, you can walk thirty to forty metres through the seaweed and tree trunks down towards the water. Sea gulls and Canada geese roam the place, splashing about everywhere. Go check out the tides before you go to the beach, so you can plan out all your activities! Paddle-boarding, swimming and walking are all wonderful plans!
