There are lists and lists of all the dog breeds out there. Tons! So I will only talk about a few of them. Most breeds of dog are at most a few hundred years old, having been selected for particular specific functional roles. These breeds are pretty common and you probably will be able to see and recognise them around your neighbourhood.

The first breed I will be talking about the Labrador Retriever. Or also known as a lab. This breed of dog will have either have a yellow, brown(chocolate) or black coat. Their coat is smooth, short, dense and straight. Labs are the most popular breed of dog by registered ownership in the US, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. This is a favourite in assistance with people. They are frequently trained to help guide the blind as guide dogs and help people with autism as therapy dogs. These dogs were originally bred to helps hunters retrieve shot-down game. Many of them are cooperative and make great family pets, as long as they get plenty of exercise.

German Shepherds are best known for herding sheep and cattle.They are intelligent, easy to train and have lots of energy. As pets, they may get bored and restless if they don't have enough to do. So make sure they get lots of exercise every day. German Shepherds are the most common type of dog to train as Police dogs. They are used to search for missing people, explosives and drugs. They also help look for crime evidence and protect their owners. Beagles are also used as police dogs. Hence the name, this breed of dog was originated in Germany. This breed of dog is the second most popular breed of dog next to the lab.

The last dog will be the cute fluffy Pomeranian. They are classified into the toy dog family because of it's small size. Pomeranians are typically very friendly, playful and lively breed of dog. They love to be around their owners and are known to be protective over them. They are very alert and aware of their surroundings. Usually they develop a habit of barking excessively in any situation.
