Once you've made the cross (Yay?), we now go for the completion of the first layer.
Compared with the cross, this step is much easier to learn and master.
Completion of the First Layer
A solved first layer should look something like this:

As you can see, the white cross is solved and all the corner pieces of the white face are also solved.
Before solving the first layer, there's one thing I like to point out first...
Holding the Cube
I've noticed only a few people of the "Cubing Population" at school (people who can solve it) work the F2L with the white cross on the bottom. The rest of the people have it at the top...
I'm not saying that this is bad, but it is advised that you should hold the cube with the cross on the bottom. So you're working from the bottom up. Something like this:

Holding it with the cross on the bottom allows the cuber to have a better perspective and a clearer image of the top layer (which is important).
Completion of the First Layer Cont'd
Ok, back on track, you would want a corner like this:
This is a good corner (something we want) when the white face of the corner is on a side face (not on top).
To put it in place, you would first line up the coloured face of the corner that is NOT on top, with its relative center. Too confusing? Check what I did.
In my case, I have a white-green-orange corner that I need to solve... I would match the orange (the coloured face that is NOT on top) with its relative center - the orange center. Like this:
Then, you would have the face with the colour's center in front of you (in my case, I would have orange in front of me) as your "F" face (you should know what F means...)
To put it in position, you would do this algorithm:
L', U', L (or the up-over-back down).
However, if the corner piece is on the top-right (my WGO corner was in the top left, after matching its center), you do this instead: R, U, R'.
Beware, not all the corners are good corners and you will need to make them good corners.
Unfortunately, the only way to do this requires your intuitive thinking, as it requires you to know how to move corner pieces and turn them into good ones.
(P.S: What I would do, is just spam the
L', U', L (or the R, U, R') on a corner piece until its a good one...)
This takes practice as well, so until you're confident, scramble the cube once you've solve the first layer and keep solving+scrambling until you are.
All right, next step - Finishing the F2L!
Beginner's White Cross!
Finishing the F2L!
Back to the White Cross... Keep on going squire!
