Moves and Handling

Ball handling and moves are an integral part of basketball. They can not only be fun, but also give you the chance to “show off” and be flashy. At its very basics, ball handling and moves are how you use your body and dribble the ball (or not) to achieve something against a defender. For example, a hesitation, a pause or stopping of movement, is an extremely effective move at getting by your defender. Likewise, a “behind the back” or "crossover" dribble can be useful for faking out defenders and getting out of trouble.

Interestingly, there are an almost uncountable amount of moves that can vary from simple to complex. When becoming a better basketball player, it’s important to develop a “style” or in other words, something you often do and are good at. Through moves and ball handling you can easily progress your style. For basketball in general, practicing and improving a skill that you like or are good at would greatly help you. However, it’s important to not forget other skills/aspects as it is important to practice everything.
