Scoring at the rim is probably the most fundamentally important skill you should have. The easiest way to score at the rim is to finish. Finishing, is generally attributed to scoring near the hoop. Though there are a wide variety of types of finishes, the most simple and known would be the layup with your dominant hand. However, in higher levels of basketball , being able to use your left hand and finish will be necessary. Furthermore, the footwork will also vary depending on the type of finish. Nevertheless, it is important to not travel when finishing. This means that you can’t take more than 2 steps after you dribbled the ball. Interestingly, layups are also the most missed “shot” in basketball, partly due to the large amount of layups taken. Finally, you have the “dunk”. It’s something everyone wants to do but are not always able! My goal before the end of this year of 2016-17 is to dunk! But like everything, it takes hard work, time, and dedication.
