What is nuclear power?
Nuclear power is the energy obtained within a nuclear reactor
from nuclear fission. This process is known as the breaking down
atoms into smaller atoms. Huge amounts of energy is released
during this process and we contain this energy to receive large
amounts of heat which we use to evaporate water into steam. The
steam is drawn through pipes to drive a turbine. Uranium-235 is
the atom commonly broken down into smaller atoms which break
into smaller ones and creates a chain reaction of atom splitting.
This revolutionary technology could be the solution to Earth's
energy problem by providing CO2 emission free waste. However, after the
Uranium has been split, we are left with an unusable amount of
nuclear waste. Being extremely radioactive, we still have no
current way to safely store it.
