Care for a dog is pretty simple. Like humans, they have their own set of basic needs very similar to ours. They have to be fed. Usually, they are fed 2-3 times a day depending on your dog's size and diet. Dogs eat kibble that you can buy at a local pet store. They can eat some of the household foods that you eat as well. Be careful though. Some common human foods are toxic to dogs. Those foods are chocolate, onions and garlic, grapes and raisins, and macadamia nuts. There are others including various plants and tobacco.

They have to get exercise to keep them healthy. Bring it on a walk or take your dog to the park to play fetch. Or even bring it along on your daily activities such walking your child to school or on your run. Bring your leash and a couple of poop bags. Spending this time will be crucial for the relationship between you and your dog. You will have to do this everyday and often more than once a day.

Dogs want to be clean so it is your job as the owner to groom and wash it. They need to be groomed regularly and some dogs need to be groomed more than others. You can look up your dog's breed and find out how frequently it needs to be brushed. Some dogs need brushing once a day, while others may only need brushing once every two weeks. To wash your dog, place it in the bathtub or in a big bowl if your dog is small. First, brush though the dog's coat thoroughly. Use a dog shampoo which you can get at the pet store. Get the dog nice and wet and apply the shampoo. When you are done, rinse out all the shampoo and then get a towel and rub your dog dry.

Another thing is they need to see the vet for regular exams just like we do. They are vital for your dog and it is the best way to prevent problems or catch problems early. Take your dog to the veterinarian once a year.

And of course, dogs need love from their owners! Spend time playing with your dog and take good care of it and they will love you back!
